I love you for who you are! ;)

stupid wordpress can’t produce a blank paragraph, blah blah blah…

HOMEBASE: Vienna, Austria
GENRE: Alternative/ Rock/ World Beat
CATEGORY ENTERED: World Beat
SONG SUBMITTED: “When I Open Up My Door”
LABEL: Ropeadope

HOW DID YOU BEGIN PLAYING MUSIC?
Right after I recovered from the stress caused by music classes. I went through my dad’s vinyl collection and, singing along, I suddenly realized that’s something I’d always want to do.

WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND YOUR BAND NAME?
Buddhuza used to be my childhood nickname, and in Georgian it means chubby. The weight is gone but the name still sticks. What? It’s spelled just like Buddha with two extra letters? I’m sure it’s just a coincidence.

WHAT GENRES BEST DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC?
I was told I’m alternative rock/pop, but I think I’m too young to settle down, there are too many things I would like to try.

DESCRIBE YOUR LATEST RELEASE.
To me it’s a home recording experiment and I like that you can hear that on each record. But I’m sure you’ll make something else out of it.

DID YOU USE ANY UNUSUAL INSTRUMENTS OR EFFECTS?
I’d been craving to use a sitar and santur with a strong drum and bass line and, as I found out, they go great together. Plus, playing instruments in the wrong range sure makes it sound weird, in a cute way.

WERE THERE ANY ‘HAPPY ACCIDENTS’ IN THE STUDIO?
I would say it was all ‘happy accidents’, except some recording sessions ruined all plans. It’s been going on like this for two years and I finally thought maybe I should take a break.

DID FANS HELP FUND THIS PROJECT?
Oh yeah, I’ve been treated with drinks all the time. That pretty much kept me motivated.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO SUBMIT THIS SONG TO THE 10TH IMAS?
Cos that’s my favorite song and I thought it would be a perfect way to share it with a large audience. What? There’s a huge prize for the winner? Boy, I’ve just learned about it.

YOU WERE NOMINATED FOR THE 9TH IMAS WORLD BEAT SONG CATEGORY, HOW HAS THIS INFLUENCED YOU?
I told myself: wow, there are other people who like the song, it’s a license to write!

IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO SAY TO ARTISTS SUBMITTING THIS YEAR?
Keep doing what you’re doing! It’s that process that matters, not what you get for it!

WHO IS SITTING IN YOUR AUDIENCE?
That’s a good question. Maybe I should be asking it to my audience next time I’m on stage.

WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE WHEN YOU’RE ON THE ROAD?
Music. I keep abusing my player every time I travel. It’s like a time machine, takes you to a completely different realm, in seconds.

HAVE YOU EVER HUNG OUT WITH ONE OF YOUR MUSICAL HEROES? WHAT’S THE STORY?
Yeah, about that, they’re all dead.

WHAT DO YOU COLLECT AND WHY?
Apparently cables. It’s not that I intentionally collect them, but I’ve recently gone through them and collecting them seems to be the only valid explanation of why I have so many of them.

WHAT’S YOUR MOST MEMORABLE ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE?
I’ve recently learned to stop asking that question to myself and I think that’s the one.

WHAT IS THE WILDEST THING A FAN HAS EVER DONE FOR YOU?
There was this chick who licked my guitar and almost choked, and I do mean a guitar!

WHAT’S YOUR CRAZIEST TOUR STORY?
I showed up for my gig a day later.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM SHOW LINEUP?
May vary from drunken friends to music professors. It very much depends on what you feel like playing or hearing.

WHAT WAS THE FIRST ALBUM YOU EVER BOUGHT?
The Doors debut album was the one I first bought with my own money.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BAND OF ALL TIME?
The Mothers of Invention.

FINISH THIS SENTENCE: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS… a club.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN THE WORKS FOR THE REST OF 2010? 2011?
I want to say more synthesis of acoustic and electronic music but who knows, I might end up with good old avant garde metal. That’s the beauty of art.

HOW CAN FANS FOLLOW YOU? WHERE IS YOUR MUSIC AVAILABLE?
All my music is at http://buddhuza.com and I’m tweeting from this tree http://twitter.com/buddhuza
